Member Spotlight | Shelagh Cummins, CEO and Founder of The Road to Seven
Please provide a summary of your business, who you serve and how you serve them
I am the CEO and Founder of The Road to Seven, a company dedicated to empowering high-achieving women entrepreneurs through strategic financing, coaching, and training. As a sought-after business coach and TEDx speaker, I specialize in consulting with the elite 12% of women entrepreneurs who scale their businesses beyond six figures and the exceptional 2% who push past the million-dollar mark. I implement my proprietary Scale RoadmapTM infrastructure, equipping my clients with the right processes, people, and profits to achieve the time, money, and impact they envisioned when they embarked on their entrepreneurial journeys.
What were key elements of your personal and professional journey that lead you to where you are today?
I started my company because I wanted to have the time flexibility to be the primary caregiver for my children while still needing to contribute financially to my family. My entrepreneurial journey has been anything but smooth and linear. I tried a few businesses until I realized I didn't enjoy them. I made countless mistakes and pushed myself to the financial brink. My company has brought me to my knees more times than I care to mention - but each and every time, I have come back stronger. These challenges have helped me build the curriculum I use in my work to support the growth of other women-owned companies. I see everyday women achieving the time flexibility and financial freedom they desire. It’s an honour and a privilege.
What motivates you the most to keep going?
What motivates me the most to keep going are my children and the success of my clients. My kids inspire me every day as I strive to be a positive role model for them, demonstrating the importance of perseverance, passion, and dedication. Seeing the incredible successes of my clients, witnessing their growth, and knowing that I'm helping them achieve their dreams fuels my drive to continue evolving and improving my programs and strategies. Their achievements are a testament to the impact of my work, and they motivate me to keep pushing forward.
What is one important lesson that entrepreneurship has taught you that has impacted you the most?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that nothing has to be perfect or permanent. I used to hold back, waiting for the perfect moment, but now I launch knowing that I can always improve and refine later. This mindset shift has been profoundly impactful, allowing me to grow and evolve continuously. It's a testament to the inner strength, resilience, and grit we all possess, often without realizing it. There’s a whole iceberg of potential beneath the surface, waiting to be tapped into.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What do you still have left to accomplish?
I will be in my sixties in ten years, which means I plan to sell my business within the next decade. Once it's sold, I intend to travel extensively with my husband, as all three of my kids will be grown. I will always work because I love it. I plan to invest in several women-owned businesses and provide business advisory services, as my passion for supporting women runs deep.
Why did you join The Elleiance Network, why do you think it is important to have a support network and what do you love most about being a part of Elleiance?
This year, my goal was to broaden my network and meet other incredible women doing amazing things. Working behind a computer is very isolating. I’ve met some wonderful people. I enjoy the connections, conversations, and exposure to new ideas and businesses.
