About Your Speakers
Naren Balakrishnan
With over 20 years of experience in information technology, professional services and consulting, I provide support in tax incentive advisory and compliance matters, including helping clients in all industries make efficient use of Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credit claims. A Partner in the R&D and Government Incentives group, my area of specialty is in the technology, media and telecommunications space where, I support clients in software IT. This includes specialty areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, mobile application development, blockchain, fintech, aerospace and defense, health IT and bio-technology.
When working with clients, my aim is to make it easier to navigate complex government programs so they can gain access to the financial incentives they need to achieve their objectives. I’m also heavily involved in business development initiatives, developing strategic partnerships with technology associations, helping start-up companies get to the next level and working with international companies to enter the Canadian market. I am also part of CPA Canada’s SR&ED committee, work as a mentor and partner with numerous tech associations/accelerators/incubators, frequently contribute thought leadership to the SR&ED/IT space, and present at various professional and community associations on topics related to government funding. You may also have heard me on various tech-centric podcasts exploring Canada’s innovation landscape. I am also a board member at the Cyber Security Global Alliance (CSGA).
Outside of work, I love to travel, take part in recreational sports and spend quality time with my wife and two sons.
